Fostering Progressive Growth & Expansion
Decatur’s proactive and progressive city government maintains an extremely optimistic outlook regarding the future growth and expansion of the Decatur area. The City of Decatur, Wise County, and the DEDC work closely together to provide existing business and industry attractive incentives to grow and expand and for business and industry considering an expansion or relocation to a new community.
Mission Statement
To achieve sustained, balanced economic growth for the City of Decatur as measured by improvements in primary employment and increased tax base, while enhancing the quality of life and providing greater access to desirable goods and services. The City of Decatur, Wise County, the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, Main Street, existing business and industry, and the DEDC continuously work to preserve the charm, character, uniqueness, and appeal of Decatur while maintaining a progressive, urban atmosphere where any business or industry can thrive and grow.
Fund Usage
The Decatur Economic Development Corporation (DEDC) was formed in 1993 following a referendum by the voters of Decatur, which authorized the Corporation to receive funds from a Type A half-cent sales tax collected for economic development use for Decatur. Funds received by DEDC are used to promote the economic growth of Decatur and give the DEDC the flexibility to assist companies with infrastructure, training, and other items of importance. In 1997, a voter-approved referendum also allowed funds to be used for the capital and operation needs of the Decatur Civic Center and for infrastructure, building, and equipment needs on public land.
